Police have charged and arrested 31-year-old Kelly Eugene Elliott with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the shooting death of 37-year-old Derrick Morrisey on Aug. 30 outside the Chief's 25 Plus club.

Police say Morrisey, who was from Hoke County, was caught in the crossfire of an armed robbery.

They say Morrisey was fatally wounded as he was walking a woman to her car in the parking lot of Chief's nightclub on Rowan Street, when he walked into the middle of an armed robbery taking place in the club parking lot.

Elliott remains in the Cumberland County Detention Center where he is also charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and first-degree kidnapping in connection with the shooting death of Errol Williams on September 1, 2013.
