A Cumberland County high school student was arrested for setting fire to a bathroom trash can, according to authorities.

Deputies arrested 16-year old DeOnte Jamar Liggons, of Wade on Thursday.

Detectives said Liggons was seen on surveillance cameras entering and leaving the bathroom at Cape Fear High School.  Shortly afterwards a school employee put out a fire in a trash can inside the bathroom.

The teen is charged with burning of personal property. Liggons was released to the custody of his parents under a $3,000 secured bond.  He will make a first court appearance Friday.

No one was injured at the school.
