Controversial Halloween noose vandalized

CARY, N.C.

The people who hung the mannequin hanging from a noose in their front yard said someone came onto their property and cut down the dummy.

The couple said they never meant to offend anyone, and that the decoration was meant to be a scary display at their holiday party.

"It is meant to be creepy. It's scary, not racial, and no one even spoke to us, talked to us about anything," Carter and Jodi Cole said.

One of the Cole's neighbors reached out to ABC11 when she first saw the stuffed dummy hanging from a tree at the home off High House Road.

"I am shocked to see this in Cary of all places," Cary resident Ira Thompson said. "Nobody should have to look at that, or just being around that. Why?"

The couple said the decoration will stay up until Halloween.
