Unclaimed cash available at North Carolina State Fair

RALEIGH, N.C.

The Unclaimed Property Division of the N.C. Department of State Treasurer has a "NC Cash Booth" at the fair to help fairgoers in finding their share of more than $340 million in unclaimed property that may belong to them.

State Treasurer Janet Cowell 's office said during the fair's opening weekend, over $100,000 was claimed.

The Unclaimed Property Division returned more than $50 million in unclaimed cash in 2012. Unclaimed property consists of bank accounts, wages, utility deposits, stocks, bonds and other property types that have been abandoned due to a loss of communication or oversight.

North Carolinians can search for unclaimed property at www.nccash.com.
