Cabela's announced Thursday that it plans to open a 100,000-square-foot store in Garner to serve the greater Raleigh area.

It will be the huge outdoor gear retailer's first store in North Carolina, and comes soon after the announcement that Bass Pro Shops is opening a store on Harrison Avenue next to I-40. Construction on that store is already underway in the old Carolina Pottery location.

Gander Mountain recently opened a new store in Morrisville.

Cabela's said construction on its Garner store will begin next summer and an opening is planned in the spring of 2015.

Cabela's expects the store to employ approximately 225 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees. The store will be located in the northwest quadrant of Interstate 40 and U.S. Highway 70.

"Thousands of North Carolinians love hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors ? and many of them are longtime Cabela's customers ? which makes this a perfect match," said Tommy Millner, Cabela's Chief Executive Officer.
