Police searching for suspects in bank robbery near Chapel Hill

Authorities in Chatham County are investigating a reported robbery at a PNC Bank near the Governors Club.

It happened around 9 a.m. at 50001 Governors Drive, near the entrance of the private gated golf course community.

Authorities said two white men wearing Halloween masks walked into the bank with handguns demanding money. Following the robbery, the pair fled the scene on foot. A money bag was later found a short distance from the scene.

Officials are still searching for the men. One of the suspects was wearing a blue and black plaid shirt, blue jeans and blue gloves. The other suspect was wearing a NC State hoodie, blue jeans and blue gloves.

Chatham County authorities alerted nearby businesses and residents about the robbery through a reverse 911 call. The Willow Oak Montessori School and Carolina Meadows were place locked down as a precaution.
