Person hurt while disassembling 'Vortex' North Carolina State fair ride

RALEIGH

It happened around 3:30 a.m. at the fairgrounds off Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh, just hours after the fair ended.

Officials said a 35-year-old worker was reportedly taking down a 'Vortex' ride when the incident happened. The man suffered a leg injury and was taken to WakeMed Hospital by EMS.

Authorities have taped off the area around the ride.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.

The 'Vortex' ride is not the same ride involved in an accident that injured five people Thursday night.

Monday morning's accident is the third involving the breaking down of rides at the N.C. State Fair.

In 2009, a worker fell while trying to break down the 'Flying Bobs' ride. Five years earlier, another worker was hurt by a falling steel beam.
