There had been worries that wet pavement combined with freezing temperatures might make for slick spots on bridges and overpasses.
Despite plenty of sunshine the rest of the day Wednesday, high temperatures will only recover back to the middle 40s, at best. Another cold night happens overnight, then Thursday will turn a little warmer with a sunny day and highs in the mid-50s.
Due to the chilly temperatures, the Raleigh Rescue Mission has implemented their White Flag Program -- an initiative to house as many people as possible during extreme inclement weather.
They began pulling out emergency mattresses Tuesday morning and are handing out coats, gloves, and scarves to those in need.
Meanwhile temperatures will continue to trend up Friday through the weekend.
By the weekend, enough moisture will be drawn in that we can't rule out a shower, especially on Sunday. However, we don't expect to see any significant rain until at least Monday when another cold front will move through the region.
