Sheriff's cruiser involved in Raleigh beltline accident

RALEIGH

It happened around 10 p.m. along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 440 at the U.S. Highway 264 bypass.

A Wake County Sheriff's deputy's patrol car was parked on the side of the road with the blue lights on to alert drivers about a construction zone when authorities said a Buick rear-ended the cruiser.

The deputy, 26-year-old Bradley Alan Hart, was inside the cruiser when the accident happened and was taken to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said the car that hit the deputy was driven by 63-year-old Marie Therese Pitts. They said Pitts hit the cruiser while changing lanes on I-440.

She was not injured and was charged with making an unsafe movement.
