The vehicle ended up upside down in the water.

Police said the driver, 36-year-old Timothy Edward Duncan, of Fayetteville, was driving on Dunn Road when he crossed the center line near the South Plymouth Street intersection. They say the vehicle crashed through the backstop fencing of a softball field and overturned into a retention pond.

The accident scene was discovered by a firefighter on his way to work. Officials said they believe the vehicle had been in the water for several hours.

Friends described Duncan as a loyal, funny, and kind man who was a father of six and worked for AAA Towing.

The investigation into the accident continues.
