Halbert Sanders pleaded guilty to two DWI charges, out of the 15 that he has been pulled over for. But at the last minute, he appealed his own conviction.
One of the times Sanders was pulled, he handed officers a license of Laverne Johnson's deceased husband Donnie.
In court Thursday, the officer who arrested Sanders told a judge about the night in question.
"Mr. Halbert Sanders came back revoked. The other drivers license that was provided came back deceased," Selma police officer Travis Curtis said. "While he was in the passenger seat I noticed a very strong odor of alcohol."
District Attorney Susan Doyle wants Sanders off the roads.
"He's been charged with driving drunk 15 times, and he's a danger to all of us," Doyle said.
Sanders' last minute appeal means he could be released on $250,000 bond.
"He should be locked up with no appeal," Johnson said. "It's not fair and I pray no one gets killed if he gets out and drives drunk out of bond."
