2 killed in Raleigh crash after hitting a tree

RALEIGH, N.C.

The accident happened in the 1400 block of Lynn Road near Lead Mine Road.

Police said the white Acura ran off the road and slammed into a tree with such force that it split in half. The passenger side remained embedded in the tree and caught on fire. The driver's side traveled over 65 feet, striking two other trees before coming to a stop. No other vehicles were involved.

According to a wreck report, the driver was going 90 mph in a 45 mph. Investigators estimate the car was going 81 mph at the time of impact.

Neither the driver, Logan Sloane Aronson, or the passenger, Edward Blake Tolley were wearing seatbelts. Police said Tolley was fully ejected from the vehicle. Both 23 year olds were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police suspect alcohol may have been a factor, and results from an alcohol test are pending.
