Double homicide suspect's teen brother arrested in Louisburg slayings

LOUISBURG, N.C.

Investigators say the suspect is the brother of 34-year-old Ricky Toney, who was killed by police in a shootout after a long chase in Warren County. Authorities say the teen was in the car with Toney and was shot in the hand.

Deputies say the teen helped Toney killed his 37-year-old estranged wife and her 16-year-old daughter at their home in Louisburg early Tuesday morning. The chase started several hours later when Vance County deputies say they spotted Toney in his dead wife's car.

Franklin County Sheriff Jerry Jones said Toney was also the chief suspect in the Dec. 20 murder of 63-year-old Roger Tant in an apparent Vance County robbery at his home on Weldon's Smith Road.

Deputies were actively looking for him when they got a 911 call around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday from Toney's estranged wife's home in the 1700 block of West River Road in Louisburg. The call disconnected before an operator could communicate with the caller.

When deputies arrived at the home Tuesday morning, they found the front door slightly open and lights inside on, but no one answered. They then checked inside and found 37-year-old Akeisha Jones and her 16-year-old daughter Brianna shot to death inside a bathroom.

Jones had previously gotten a restraining order against Toney. She told authorities he had threatened violence.

The teen's uncle said he was stunned by what happened to the Louisburg High School student.

"I love her. She was a good girl and she didn't need to go down like this. This didn't need to happen to her," said Richard Collins.

The SBI is now investigating the shootout with deputies which is standard procedure in any police shooting.
