Baby Jaxen Jones was found unresponsive and not breathing at a home on Caswell Street in Smithfield Friday night.

His father, Johnathan Michael Jones, has been charged with intentional child abuse in connection with the case. According to court documents, Jaxen suffered a retinal hemorrhage.

Carthen said her son is being fed through a tube in his abdomen and is under sedation.

"Thank you to everyone for the prayers and gifts and for thinking of us," she said.

At last report, Jones was being held in the Johnston County Jail under a $400,000 bond.
