Massive fire burns down large home in Wake County

WAKE COUNTY, N.C.

Neighbors told ABC11 they had no idea there was a fire at the three-story home until the first fire truck rolled up. Then they saw a wall of flames behind the home.

Authorities say the home was completely engulfed in flames and required firefighters from all over Wake County and surrounding counties to help fight the flames.

There was a water supply issue as well; firefighters had to go to neighboring areas to pump water to put out the fire.

Power was cut off to neighboring homes because firefighters had to shut power off to the house on fire.

Duke Energy Progress was restoring power Sunday night.

ABC11 crew was on the scene when part of the home collapsed.

Authorities say the family was not home at the time of the fire but on vacation in Mexico.

The fire was extinguished by 11:35 p.m.

There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.
