Man charged with murder in Durham child's death behind bars

DURHAM

Wednesday, investigators charged 23-year-old Everett Lamont Graves with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in connection with the case.

Jaden Sharpe and his mother - 31-year-old Lakeisha Holloway - were found inside their gold SUV on Halyard Court on Jan. 4. Police said Holloway was able to drive a few blocks to get help after being shot in the driveway of her home on Lucas Drive.

The victims' family told ABC11 someone just came up to the driver's side window and fired.

Jaden - a third grader - was taken off life support Jan. 9 and later passed away after suffering a gunshot wound to the head. At last report, Holloway was still in the hospital.

Police say the incident does not appear to have been random.
