Officials said Republic Airlines Flight 4309-- which was operating as American Eagle-- landed safely at O'Hare on Monday. But 57 passengers and four crew members on the flight from Washington D.C. had to slide down chutes-- in the freezing cold-- to get off the plane.
Adam Chud sent Eyewitness News a picture. He says the landing seemed to be normal, but when people started to gather their belongings, they were instructed to leave their bags behind and evacuate by emergency chutes.
"There were older people, people with children and we just got off the plane as quickly as possible," said Chud.
The airline says the captain made the decision to deploy the chutes based on a warning from an instrument on the plane.
There were no serious injuries.
