Officials with the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce said Tuesday that winter weather is forcing The Greater Raleigh Sports Council Evening of Champions event featuring quarterback Michael Vick - set for Wednesday evening - to be rescheduled to February 27, and Vick won't be there.

"...we have been advised that he can't be in Raleigh on that date due to a previously scheduled engagement," said organizers in a news release.

Vick's participation drew sharp criticism from animal activists who said the quarterback - who pleaded guilty to taking part in a dog fighting ring in 2007 - was the wrong choice, and thousands signed an online petition to have him replaced.

Evening of Champions 2014 organizers said there will still be lots to do at the event and they're looking "forward to celebrating our community's top sports moments of 2013 and honoring the area's top athletes, teams, coaches, and organizations for their achievements in sports."
