It was a bicycle lying across three downed pine trees. A person's helmet was lying next to the bike, but there was no sign of the owner.
Durham police said the rider apparently crashed into the trees around 6:15 a.m., and then walked to a nearby store to call for an ambulance. He left his bike on the trail.
There was no immediate word on the man's condition.
