Authorities said an oversized truck driving down the road snagged the power lines causing them to fall onto the roadway around noon.
Witnesses said after the lines fell, they saw sparks, then some pine straw caught on fire and quickly spread onto some nearby trees. The fire was minor and quickly extinguished.
Both lanes of Capital Boulevard near the intersection of Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh and S. Main Street in Wake Forest were shutdown for over an hour as crews worked to repair the damage.
Traffic was detoured onto secondary roads.
