Police say 57-year-old William Russell Roe Jr. died after he was struck by a motor vehicle in the parking lot of Village Baptist Church.
The incident happened around 10 a.m. Sunday on the 900 block of S. McPherson Church Road. Roe was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.Police believe he was struck by a 2009 Mercury driven by his spouse, Kathryn Roe, as she backed into the church parking lot.
Investigators believe Roe had exited the vehicle and was attempting to walk into the church when the driver placed the vehicle in reverse, unaware of Roe's location.
