Raleigh police memorial dedicated

New memorial honoring the eight city officers who made the ultimate sacrifice serving Raleigh

A new memorial honoring the eight Raleigh police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice serving the city was dedicated Friday evening.

The $500,000 memorial has 21 stone columns which represent a 21 gun salute as well as a pool with eight voids representing each officer. It's located at 222 West Hargett Street.

Money for the memorial was raised by the Raleigh Police Memorial Foundation. It was founded in 2009 by a group of active and retired Raleigh police officers.

The Raleigh Police Officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty are:

  • Officer Tom G. Crabtree, died Sept. 1, 1922
  • Officer Robert E. Sparks died March 8, 1968
  • Officer James W. Allen, died Dec. 5, 1968
  • Officer James G. Lee, died Dec.  5, 1968
  • Officer Delma D. Adams, died Feb. 3, 1980
  • Officer Denise Holden, died Aug. 4, 1995
  • Detective Paul A. Hale, died July 11, 1997
  • Officer Charles R. Paul, died Sept. 10, 2002
