All clear at North Carolina A&T State University

GREENSBORO

University spokeswoman Samantha Hargrove said campus police received a report of a gunman in the General Classroom Building at 9:57 a.m.

Officers evacuated the General Classroom, along with Crosby, Barnes and Merrick Halls to conduct a sweep of the buildings, which are on the north side of the campus. They also cleared the outside Quad area as a precaution.

The rest of the campus was told to remain where they were and to seek shelter.

The school gave the all-clear just before 1 p.m. and students were told to return to classes as normal.

Police continued to investigate the report that triggered the alert.

N.C. A&T is a historically black university with a nearly 200-acre central campus east of downtown Greensboro.
