Police: driver had blood alcohol level that was double the legal limit

RALEIGH, N.C.

Jacob Press, 21, faces a slew of charges, including felony death by motor vehicle.  He will face a judge Monday.

Police say Press was driving a pickup truck in the wrong direction on 440 last Saturday when he crossed the median and hit a car driven by 67-year-old Rex Todd.

Todd died. His wife, 66-year-old Mary, was right next to him in the passenger seat.

She was taken to the hospital. Press also went to the hospital.

The Todds were very involved in the town of Garner. Rex Todd helped manage economic and community development, while Mary eventually became town manager.

"She came from employee level to administration," said Garner Mayor Ronnie Williams, referring to Todd's career before she retired in 2007. Williams said his friendship with Mary Todd goes all the way back to high school, and he became visibly upset when talking about his longtime friend.

Press, a former baseball player for Wake Tech Community College, is now out of the hospital.

At last check, Mary Todd is still in the hospital in stable condition.
