Durham police officer involved in accident with NCCU student

DURHAM

The wreck happened around 2:30 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Highway 54 and Fayetteville Road near the Streets at Southpoint mall.

"I was able to crawl over to the passenger side," said Troy Cole, the driver of a 2011 silver Camaro. "I was hit by a police officer. And I had the green light."

Cole said he was crossing over Fayetteville Road, headed to a nearby restaurant, when a Durham Police squad car hit the rear driver side of his vehicle.

Durham police said paramedics treated the driver of the Camaro and the officer for minor cuts and bruises. The officer was seen wearing a bandage on his wrist after the crash.

While Cole complained of a sore neck, he was more concerned about his damaged vehicle and its impact on his upcoming graduation this weekend.

"I'm upset. But, I'm just grateful for my health right now," the North Carolina Central University student told ABC11, pointing out the missing bumper on his car.
