Cisco adding 550 jobs at Research Triangle Park
Cisco said Friday it will add about 550 jobs at its Research Triangle Park facility over the next four years as it expands its campus.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Cisco said Friday it will add about 550 jobs at its Research Triangle Park facility over the next four years as it expands its campus.

Gov. Pat McCrory was on hand for the announcement. He took a tour of the building and looked at some of the network technology which the company produces.

The company employs more than 74,000 people worldwide. Last year, Cisco was forced to cut five percent of its workforce. Now it's turning things around.

"We're very pleased that your executive team picked North Carolina to expand by 550 people," said McCrory. "This is just great news. We've been working on this for over a year and the competition was tough. Cisco could have gone to a lot of different states."

"It's always about bringing in new capabilities out of the university system, developing, growing, providing the educational opportunity as well as the work environment," said Cisco President Gary Moore. "So that's another reason why North Carolina is such a great place for us to be."

Cisco plans to hire people for a mix of finance, operations and advanced network services.

Salaries of the new jobs will vary, but will average almost $73,000 plus benefits. The average Wake County salary is currently $49,000.
