Womack Army Medical Center hiring 300

FORT BRAGG, NC (WTVD) -- A job fair aimed at filling hundreds of federal healthcare positions will be held this week in Fayetteville.

Womack Army Medical Center is authorized to fill 200-300 positions, ranging from physicians, medical encoders, and pharmacists to electricians, plumbers and AC maintenance crews. Applicants will be able to meet with employers during a job fair on Thursday and Friday at the Holiday Inn Bordeaux in Fayetteville.

"We've had a number of years of hiring freezes where we haven't been able to hire anyone, and so we're trying to catch up for some vacancies that we've accrued over that time," said Ashley Gore, head of internal maintenance for Fort Bragg's Department of Public Works.

Gore also said a number of promotions have contributed to the open positions.

Colonel John Melton, Chief of Staff for WAMC, said the ability to hire for the positions boils down to sheer numbers. Fort Bragg services the largest number of beneficiaries in the country for the Department of Defense.

"You know we got a saying here at Fort Bragg 'We're home of the Airborne and Special Operations. We're the center of the universe. When the world dials 911, it's Fort Bragg that answers the phone,'" said Melton.

"And if you work at Womack Army Medical Center, you not only have the privilege, but the responsibility to care for those that answer that call and their families," said Melton. "It doesn't make us better, but it makes us different and where you work does matter."

Melton also stressed the rare opportunity to meet face-to-face with employers and navigate the ins and outs of the federal hiring process, and learn more about some of the most competitive paying jobs in the area.

"You may not be sure if the federal government is right for you, but if you're in the healthcare profession, we invite you to come," said Melton. "You should come and make an informed decision. If it isn't right for you now, it may be right for you later."

The job fair will take place between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at the Holiday Inn Bordeaux in Fayetteville, which is located at 1707 Owen Drive.

Applicants should visit http://usajobs.gov/ to apply for open positions. They should also bring resumes to the job fair. Personnel from the Civilian Personnel Advisory Center will be on site to assist applicants, and their information may be found here: http://www.bragg.army.mil/units/cpac/Pages/Fort_Bragg_CPAC.aspx
