Charlotte caregiver accused of sexually assaulting 7- and 9-year-old girls

CHARLOTTE -- A man is accused of sexually assaulting two young girls Sunday night near a park in Charlotte's Elizabeth neighborhood, WSOC reports.

A witness, who called police, said he saw a man sexually assaulting the girls near Independence Park.

Officers arrested 43-year-old Ivan Dawkins and charged him with two counts of indecent liberties with a child and statutory sex offense with a child.

Detectives later determined that Dawkins was the caregiver of the 7- and 9-year-old girls.

An investigation is ongoing.
