The surprise announcement was made at school Tuesday

CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Cary Senior High School Marching Band has been selected out of hundreds of applicants nationwide to be one of 10 marching bands in the 2016 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The band got the news during a surprise announcement at the school Tuesday morning.

While band members who are currently seniors won't be performing, they're still excited.

"I'm definitely gonna support! I'm gonna beg my mom to take me to New York because I really want to see them. I'm so excited! I wanna march with them!" said senior Rebecca Bischoff.

It's not the first time the band has been invited to the Big Apple. They played in the parade back in 1983.

"So we've known Cary, we've known the program. But we've been watching them for a couple of years and we've watched the creative develop, and get more and more exciting," said Wesley Whatley, Creative Director of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
