Cumberland County principal demoted

SPRING LAKE, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Cumberland County School board voted to demote a Spring Lake elementary school principal earlier this week, following a summer investigation into actions taken on the last day of school.

Parents complained that Tammy Holland made Manchester Elementary School students walk outside in the heat for over two hours on the final day of school, June 10. They said it was punishment for the children not wearing their school uniforms.

Holland was subsequently placed in an administrative role at the Central Office while the investigation moved forward.

Earlier this week, the CCS board voted to demote Holland to assistant principal pay and teaching duties. Superintendent Frank Till confirmed Holland will now teach children in home and hospice care.

Kailey Hill, an assistant principal at Morganton Road Elementary, will as serve as Manchester's new principal.
