Singers Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas announced Monday afternoon that they are canceling their Raleigh and Charlotte tour stops due to the controversial House Bill 2.

In a joint statement on Twitter, they said, "North Carolina's discriminatory HB2 law is extremely disappointing, and it takes away some of the LGBT community's most basic rights and protections."

They said one of the goals of the tour has been to create an atmosphere where all attendees feel equal, included, and accepted.

The two noted that cancelling is disappointing to fans but they said they "trust that you will stand united with us against this hateful law."

They were scheduled to perform July 2 in Raleigh.

They are the latest in a string of cancellations over the new law, including Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam.
