DURHAM (WTVD) -- A Durham native and member of the Gospel Hall of Fame has something else to add to her list of accomplishments - a star of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Shirley Caesar sat down with ABC11 to talk about her career and where she's going from here.

The Shaw University graduate is the pastor at Mount Calvary Word of Faith Church in Raleigh. Last week she was honored with a star in front of the Fonda Theatre near BeBe and CeCe Winans.

"To receive a star of the Hollywood Walk of Fame is just a wonderful, wonderful feeling," Caesar told ABC11.

In the 1980's, Caesar spent 4 years on Durham's City Council and helped shape the city's direction and future. She said the city has some work to do with a rising crime rate and the new police chief.

"I want all of Durham to pray for our new police chief. Secondly, I want the mothers to continue to stress to their sons' and daughters' life is better than death," she said. "Because if you go out shooting, shooting, shooting, you will not win."

Caesar said she's grateful for all of her accomplishments, especially being able to sing for every U.S. President since Jimmy Carter.

"I want to leave such a wonderful legacy behind so that other young people will say there was something in her that I want in my life," she explained.
