1. Find Your Cool Concert series w/ Toon and Defacto Thezpian (Thursday) FREE

Downtown Durham's free Thursday concert at CCB Plaza features local rappers this week. Rapper Toon is co-founder of the DURM Hip-Hop Summit, and Defacto Thezpian has a remarkable cadence and undeniable punchlines. Before the show you might want to stop by The Parlour ice cream shop for a cone to help with the hot temperatures. Details

2. Tommy Davidson at Goodnight's Comedy Club (Thursday - Saturday) Starting at $18

The stand-up comedian and actor is best-know for his skits on the groundbreaking show "In Living Color" where he starred along with Jamie Foxx and Jim Carrey. Details

3. Visual Art Exchange reception for "You Do You" (Friday) FREE

In this great exhibition, artists get to show how they see themselves with self-portraits. I had a sneak peek and there's some pretty cool stuff. Public reception is tomorrow night at 309 Martin Street. Details

4. Jonathan Byrd & The Pickup Cowboys at Cat's Cradle (Friday) $12-15

The acoustic guitar player was called "one of the most significant 50 song writers of the past 50 years" by Chicago Tribune, and "one of the tent poles of contemporary folk music" by the Midwest Record. Details

5. Warehouse Blues Series at Durham Central Park (Friday) FREE

The first of four consecutive Friday blues jams features Jon Shain, Melissa Swingle and The River Otters. And the community will have a chance to participate in the music, which makes this a pretty unique event. Details

6. Marc Cohn at Carolina Theatre in Durham (Sunday) Starting at $37

The pop singer and Grammy-winner has been called a "master storyteller" so this will be a good way to wind down from the weekend. Details

7. The Band Perry at Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary (Sunday) Starting at $35

Close out the weekend with country music stars The Band Perry at Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary. They've been nominated for multiple Grammy awards. Gates open at six; great place to watch a concert. Details
