FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- This weekend, hundreds of people will walk the pink carpet in an effort to raise scholarship money for Cumberland County high school students.

The annual Jazz on Top of the Town gala will be held at the Crown Center in Fayetteville on Saturday. It's the signature scholarship fundraiser for the Upsilon Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

The event is also an extension of the Fayetteville Dogwood Festival.

This year's event is Oscar-themed, and will award prizes to the best-dressed individuals and couples.

"You're going to be able to come out and walk on the glorious pink carpet," laughed Tracey Allen, who handles the chapter's public relations.

Allen said the event will also feature the Mayweather-Pacquio fight.

Over the past 15 years, the chapter has awarded more than $75,000 in scholarship money to local students. The chapter said the event will also contribute to community programs to include funding STEM education for high schoolers.

"The more that people contribute to our cause, the more that we can do out in the community," said Shekea Hinton-Mack, the chapter's Vice-President. "So come out and support this event and we'll continue to put the money back out in the community."
