Councilman wants to rename Houston street after Destiny's Child

HOUSTON -- You could be driving down Destiny's Child Lane someday, if a Houston city leader has his way.

Council member Michael Kubosh is proposing to change the name of Hadley Street in downtown Houston to Destiny's Child Lane, to honor the contributions of the Grammy-winning group and Music World Entertainment. For the past 20 years, the company, which started small, has grown into a leading music and entertainment conglomerate.

"With business offices, recording and rehearsal studios, a concert and event venue, one could say that magic happens at 1505 Hadley Street," Kubosh wrote in a statement. "Nothing personifies that magic like the storied career of Destiny's Child. Beyonce, Michele and Kelly got their start here -- rehearsing, creating and recording the songs that helped them soar to unparalleled international acclaim."

"Destiny's Child is embedded in this community," said Mathew Knowles, founder, president and CEO of Music World Entertainment, and father to Beyonce. "You see the Knowles-Rowland from Kelly Rowand and Beyonce Center of Youth. You see the Knowles-Tibbinos House."

Kubosh is asking fellow council members for their support, and hosting an informational meeting this week with Knowles.
