Hundreds of people showed up Sunday for a chance to become the next "American Idol," with the line snaking around several blocks in Asheville.

ASHEVILLE, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Hundreds of people showed up Sunday for a chance to become the next "American Idol," with the line snaking around several blocks in Asheville.

Asheville, North Carolina is the hometown of "American Idol" winner Caleb Johnson, who showed up to meet fans and sit-in on auditions.

Contestants must be between the ages of 15-28 to compete. The youngest competing singers were born the year Idol first got its start.
