Dave Ramsey offers smart money tips
Dave Ramsey teaches 7 baby steps to financial freedom

DURHAM (WTVD) -- When it comes to money, Dave Ramsey is well known as a personal finance expert who has built an empire of his own with radio shows, books, and live events including a sold out "Smart Money" show at the Durham Performing Arts Center.

"It's a huge compliment for one thing but its also a huge opportunity," Ramsey said.

"There's three thousand people there that we can help change their life and give them information so they can go home and be heroes at their house, it's good stuff," he said.

Ramsey has won over audiences across the world with his no-nonsense delivery and simple money advice with 7 baby steps to knocking out debt and taking control of money.

"Most people who work our stuff and do it with intensity are debt free in about 2 years-everything but the house," Ramsey said.

On this Smart Money tour, Ramsey continues to teach audiences his simple plan. He also brings financial speakers on stage and for the DPAC show, it is a homecoming of sorts for Fayetteville native Anthony ONeal who is now part of Ramsey's team, taking the stage to teach baby steps 3, 4, and 5.

"It's very special to me," ONeal said. "Because my father and mother-Ive been traveling the country and speaking on a lot of big stages, but, they haven't been able to see me before.

So, the fact they get to see me on the stage with Dave Ramsey means so much to me because, just 12 years ago, I was in debt, they helped me get through it with Dave's steps.

Now, I'm on the stage with him, it means a lot. I hope I don't cry," ONeal said.

"70% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck," ONeal said. "They don't have a savings account. They're not saving for emergencies.

I didn't save for emergencies, so, that's one thing I'm going to be teaching-set aside 3-6 months of expenses, because it's not about if an emergency comes it's about when."

Ramsey also weighed in on the lesson we can all learn from the news that singer Prince did not have a will with a massive fortune at stake. Click HERE for more on that
