Yogafest NC offers scholarships and raises awareness about free yoga classes in the Triangle

YogaFest NC will be in Raleigh this weekend bringing together hundreds who love yoga or anyone who wants to learn about the benefits.

"A lot of pain can be managed with adjusting postures, changing mindset, and improving breathing practices." explained YogaFest NC Producer, Howie Shareff. "So, there's a lot to be explored that isn't always obvious."

In addition to producing YogaFest NC, Shareff is also director of the non-profit, You Call This Yoga, which works to create program for physically challenged and under-served populations to improve their lives with yoga.

"We've been teaching at the public library in north Raleigh for years," said Shareff. "And, we're expanding that throughout Wake County this Spring doing demonstrations at the regional branches. We have programs at the alliance

and we also have programs for people with MS, neuromuscular and joint disorders."

"And, we're also establishing a new relationship with public housing of Wake Co. so we can reach residents and disabled veterans."

Most of the classes You Call This Yoga teaches in the community are free or donation only. Those classes will be among the many highlighted at YogaFest NC this weekend.

"At YogaFest we have at least 2 classes per session," said Shareff.

YogaFest NC will run Saturday, April 11 from 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the McKimmon Center on NCSU's campus. There is a fee of $55 dollars to attend, but, some scholarships are being offered for those in need who would like to attend.

"We have to offer our audience through ABC11 10 scholarships," said Shareff.

The scholarships are for those who may not have the means to attend YogaFest NC by putting the practice and benefits in reach.
