Cafe Helios shuts down with no notice
Popular coffee shop Cafe Helios on Glenwood South closed its doors Friday night with no notice.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A Glenwood South mainstay is suddenly closed.

A lot of ABC11 viewers were sounding off on Twitter about the shutdown of Cafe Helios.

A sign posted on the front door read, "After 12 years, we have served our last latte."

The employees were not informed prior to closing, but the owner told ABC11 they are being compensated by way of a severance payment for a period of two weeks following the closing.

"They were informed of their severance compensation the same day we closed. We believed this would be the least disruptive way to handle it for all concerned," said Gray Medlin, owner of Cafe Helios.

Medlin also said all outstanding gift cards will be refunded in full. Gift card holders will need to send a request at 413 Glenwood 27608 and the coffee shop will send a check back.

Cafe Helios had been open since 2002.

The coffee shop is arranging for the donation of their non-perishable food inventory to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.
