Food Lion teamed up with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina on Wednesday to make sure local kids don't go hungry this summer.

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Food Lion teamed up with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina on Wednesday to make sure local kids don't go hungry this summer.

The special food donation is part of the "Stop Summer Hunger" program.

On Wednesday, Food Lion gave food for the summer to 620 students at Eastway Elementary School in Durham.

It was their last day of school before summer vacation.

Of Eastway's student population, 98 percent receive free and reduced lunch during the school year.

The kids got a bag of non-perishable items like oatmeal, peanut butter, and canned fruits and vegetables.
