Fuquay-Varina restaurant gets another chance
Joyce and Family Restaurant has been in business for the last 18 years, calling Main Street home for many of those.

FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. (WTVD) -- A popular, family-owned restaurant and Fuquay-Varina mainstay in jeopardy of closing, is getting a break.

The owners of Joyce and Family Restaurant on Main Street tell ABC11 the property manager has extended, for a third time, the deadline for them to pay their rent.

Joyce Staton said unanticipated building maintenance and a rough bout with winter weather brought business to a halt last month. The power was shut off and the Statons had to close their doors for the first time in 18 years.

Meanwhile, they weren't able to earn enough money to cover their $15,000 rent.

Thanks to donations made to the family's Go Fund Me page, the Statons were able to deliver a $3,000 check to the property manager Wednesday, who in turn extended the deadline for the remaining payment to Monday morning.

"I am elated!" Tim Staton said while standing in the restaurant parking lot, having just got off the phone with the property manager. He said he and his mother Joyce are grateful to everyone who has been donating online. They now hope to raise the remaining $12,000 they need to get back into the building on Monday.
