Local farmer looks to protect straberries from overnight freeze
The owner of DJ's Berry Patch and Farm planned to watch his crop during the cold weather

APEX, N.C. (WTVD) -- With a Freeze Warning issued until Sunday morning, there's lots of work for local strawberry farmers.

Darin Jones, owner of DJ's Berry Patch and Farm in Apex, planned to spend the night watching his crop. He's hoping to protect them from the potentially devastating cold weather.

"We're going to water over the top of the covers and put a coating of ice over the covers and insulate them and try to keep the berries as warm as possible," he said. "And keep all our blooms from getting burnt."

If the crops survive the freeze, farmers are counting for perfect strawberry weather - no rain and a gradual increase in temperature.
