Taco bike to be Raleigh's newest menu choice
Owners of El Taco Cartel hope to pedal their way into your appetite with fresh, organic, locally-sourced tacos

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A Raleigh entrepreneur is getting ready to bring you tacos on three wheels. El Taco Cartel is the newest street food vendor coming to Downtown.

Justin Miller - who loves tacos - hopes to pedal his way into your appetite with the flavors of Mexico City in the City of Oaks.

"My options were I either get a third taco tattoo or I bring a taco cart to Raleigh and be able to enjoy that on a daily basis," said Miller.

Turning his passion into a palate-pleasing product took time. Miller and his partners, Dave and Lily Balance, spent a year planning logistics, developing a menu, and getting the proper city permits.

"This has been a dream of mine to bring a taco cart to life here in Raleigh for years," said Miller.

Miller calls his front-loaded taco-hauling tricycle an alternative to your standard street fare.

"Taking the mystery out of the mystery street meat," he explained. "Fresh, organic, locally-sourced tacos in a variety of flavors."

For three bucks a pop or two for five dollars you can have your pick: The El Pastor with chicken or pork, Tinga Chicken, or if meat's not your thing, there will always be a veggie option.

Miller rolled the cart outside William and Company bar over the weekend for a test spin.

"Our goal is to be able to produce a high-end product, bring it out and hopefully have it sell out within one to two hours," said Miller.

It was a success. The new company later tweeted that in less than two hours, they dished out 300 tacos- numbers Miller hopes to see again when he pedals down Fayetteville Street for an official opening in July.

"Hopefully, the quality and the taste of the food will be what keeps people coming back," he said.

El Taco Cartel plans to launch in the next ten days, riding down Fayetteville Street serving tacos during the lunch hours. At night, you can find the cart at William and Company bar on Person Street.

They also plan to serve the late-night crowd craving those 2 a.m. tacos, Thursday through Sunday.
