DURHAM, North Carolina (WTVD) -- A gas leak Tuesday night forced Durham Police to evacuate residents of Durham's McDougald Terrace.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. on Dayton Street near Wabash Street. Police say someone fired a shot and it hit a gas line.

Officers and firefighters had to get dozens of people out of multiple buildings. No injuries were reported.

The hissing sound of gas escaping could be heard as police worked to get residents out to safety.

The leak was fixed early Wednesday morning.
