3 cases of superbug, CRE, confirmed at Charlotte-area hospital
The cases were reported at the Carolinas HealthCare System in Lincolnton.

LINCOLNTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Three new cases of the superbug have been confirmed in the Charlotte area.

The cases were reported at the Carolinas HealthCare System in Lincolnton.

Officials say two of the patients were already infected with the antibiotic resistant bug called CRE.

Another patient was infected somewhere in the hospital but it is unclear how.

The superbug can spread by contaminated equipment or even human contact.

These latest cases follow a CRE outbreak at UCLA's Medical Center that left two people dead.

The hospitals are now stepping up the sanitation process going beyond standard guidelines.
