Flu season's getting underway! Where you can get vaccinated

WAKE COUNTY (WTVD) -- Wake County is offering a weekly flu shot clinic, starting this Thursday.

The clinics run every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. until November 16th at the Wake County Public Health Center on Sunnybrook Road in Raleigh.

You don't need an appointment, but you should take your insurance card. If you don't have insurance, it will cost you $30.

"You should get it as early as possible, but if you can't get it before the end of the month that's OK," You just want to be protected when flu season hits. So that's why we do this in October and November to provide what we think is early access to flu immunization," said Joann Douglas an immunization coordinator with Wake County Human Services.

Flu season usually starts in October and can last until May.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people 6-months of age or older get vaccinated every year.

There were 219 flu-related deaths in North Carolina during the 2016-2017 flu season, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
