Doctors say they kept Dias awake, singing and talking during his surgery, in order to monitor his motor functions and speech.

Dias, who has played guitar professionally for 20 years, discovered the tumor shortly after his son was born a few months back, according to Brazilian media site G1.

"I played six songs at certain times," he told G1 (as translated by the Telegraph). "My right hand was a bit weaker because that was the side that they were operating on. So I stopped and rested. I was interspersing songs and talking with them."

According to G1, Dias is doing well and should be discharged soon.
