Veterans Affairs scandal back under a microscope
Veterans were invited to voice their concerns about wait times and scheduling irregularities at the Durham VA Medical Center Tuesday night.

DURHAM (WTVD) -- The Veterans Affairs scandal is back under a microscope.

The Durham VA Medical Center is hosting a town hall meeting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Veterans, family members and beneficiaries will get their chance to speak at the meeting.

The hospital's executive leadership team will be at the event to hear those concerns and hopefully answer questions for folks.

The spokesman for the VA sees this as an opportunity to show it's listening to the years of pent up complaints.

"We're here to do one thing [Tuesday night] and that's listen! Listen to veterans' concerns, so we can improve the healthcare delivery system to our nation's veterans and doing that right here in Durham, North Carolina," said Peter Tillman, with the Durham VA Medical Center.

It was revealed in May, the Durham VA had some of the longest wait times in the country for new patients - 104 days.

The hospital says that number has dropped significantly since then, but they're still not meeting federal targets.
