FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Some people call it a holiday shopper's dream. The 48th annual Holly Day Fair opened Thursday morning at the Crown Expo Center in Fayetteville.

Nearly 200 vendors, including some from as far away as California and New Mexico, have set up booths. Over the next four days, more than 20,000 shoppers are expected to browse crowded aisles.

The event is a big fundraiser for the Junior League in Fayetteville. Last year, the Women's organization raised and donated $300,000 to local charities, including the Child Mental Health project.

"One of them last year was the Cape Fear Valley Foundation," said SarahMarie Stewart, who is the chairperson of this year's event. "We helped remodel their pediatric intensive care unit. We have partnered this year with our local theater, and helped with their production of 'The Bluest Eye,' which focuses on mental health, self-esteem and confidence."

Forty-eight years ago, the Holly Day Fair began as a small church fundraiser. It has since grown into one of the largest holiday arts and crafts shows on the East Coast with everything From Christmas decorations, to hand-made items, to children's toys and clothes.

The fair opens Thursday at 9 a.m. and runs through Sunday afternoon.
