Man in critical condition after lightning strikes near him in Wake Co.

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man is in critical condition after lightning struck an object near him in Wake County, authorities say.

Officials say the incident happened when the man was walking through Jackson Auto Salvage around 2:30 p.m. at 7120 Poole Road.

The man has been identified as Gerardo Hernandez Rivera, 41.

Rivera was transported to WakeMed in Raleigh and is in critical condition.
